Cruciform architecture with magnificent mountain views
This rural property has magnificent views to Mount Macedon, in Victoria, and the oversized cross at its summit. studio101 architects took inspiration from this when designing a home for the property, creating a cruciform layout with four separate living zones for the large family that was to live there. A palette of natural materials was chosen for finishes, including ironbark timber, copper, glass and local sandstone. The architecture is orientated for maximum solar access and the local sandstone wall cladding used in the interiors provides great thermal mass. A dramatic cantilever enhances the sense of elevation.
