Funky Melbourne laneway architecture with electic interiors
The owners of this funky lane way house in Melbourne certainly thought outside the square when securing somewhere to build their dream home. The home was designed by Architected, who said that the innovative design stemmed from the owners returning from an extended stint working overseas to find themselves priced out of the inner city market. “The answer was to purchase the backyard of a house in Northcote in inner north Melbourne. The owner of the large property was keen to subdivide her back garden to free up some income for retirement. The owners set about designing an environmentally friendly 2 storey house set around a square garden. The L shape plan on ground floor houses all living spaces and a home office & studio, with North facing glazing overlooking the courtyard garden.”
Sustainable features: North facing, cantilevered elements and external sunshading blades, allowing winter sun to penetrate the house whilst shading summer sun, double glazed low-E windows, cross ventilation with louvre windows, LED lighting and low or zero VOC finishes.
Materials used: recycled bricks, recycled 100 year old Tasmanian Oak floorboards
