Light, white architectural delight in Oslo

Today we’re heading to Oslo in Norway where London-based studio Haptic Architects were asked to design a bright and spacious apartment in the upper levels of a nineteenth-century apartment block. The focal point of the apartment is the amazing floating staircase that connects the two levels of the apartment. The modular, white powder coated stairs are suspend from almost nowhere and connect seamlessly to a low entertainment unit. The original kitchen was tight, inefficient and dark so it was relocated to create a light, airy and spacious space that becomes the social hub and heart of the apartment. In an interesting twist, a small fireplace has been integrated into the kitchen benchtop.Upstairs, the hallway connecting the bedroom with the stairs becomes a viewing platform over the living space below. It also leads to a small sheltered roof terrace which has a large glass wall that brings light deep into the apartment.
