Sustainable prefab bushland retreat
How awesome is this little place? This pre-fab design by EcoLiv Sustainable Buildings is on the rugged coastline of Victoria and is on a large 1133m2 site which enjoys perfect northern orientation and distant rural views.
The home is owned by an avid traveler who required a compact, sustainable bushland retreat that was low maintenance. Among the owners requirements were solar passive design, a high energy rating, affordability and locally and ethically sourced construction materials.
The brief for compact was certainly achieved with this member of the ‘tiny house movement’ taking up under 70sqm for the interiors. The interior is small but smart with its streamlined, modern layout maximising the tiny space and looking great with a palette of timber, black, white and pops of yellow. The form ply kitchen looks great. A casual, warm and light-filled interior has been achieved and with such a low maintenance design, the owners can concentrate on enjoying it rather than maintaining it (gotta love that).
This stunning little home ended up with an 8 star energy rating. The owners must be chuffed!
Sustainable features: solar power, water tanks, solar hot water, solar passive design, light weight locally and ethically sourced materials, high levels of insulation, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, low VOC paints, 900mm overhanging eaves for sun/wind protection/insulation and cross-ventilation.
