Building a shed home or barn style home are becoming increasingly popular with owners of rural properties, who crave simplicity of structure and materials, and possibly as antidote to their busy modern lives.
The retired owners of this rural shed home on the rugged surf coast of Victoria said they wanted Wiesebrock Architecture to achieve a ‘triple bottom-line’ with sustainability 3 ways: environmental, social and financial.
A raft of sustainable features were incorporated, with the resulting building minimising its effect on the natural environment and designed in a pavilion style where one pavilion is used by the owners and the other unoccupied unless family and friends are visiting.

Sustainability Features
- Small footprint (main pavilion 124sqm)
- Passive solar design
- Rainwater harvesting
- Solar power and water heating
- Cross ventilation with fans for cooling
- Timber construction
- Low maintenance cladding and interior linings

“The communal deck frames glorious valley views and provides a sunny northern aspect to the living areas and bedrooms. The robust galvanized steel external envelope is softened internally with the warmth of timber, which will provide a lifetime of low maintenance joy.”
– Wiesebrock Architecture
