The Barrow house by Andrew Maynard Architects
“The Barrow” is an extension in Melbourne, designed by Andrew Maynard architects. The building was conceived as an arrangement of timber boxes, each rotated and extruding into the landscape in different ways. This led to some interesting room shapes and configurations inside. Not only are the scale and proportions of the home a visual triumph, but also the use of contrast and texture, with black windows and doors against vertical and horizontal silver top ash cladding. The main bathroom occupies the original living and dining area in the old house, so is a generous room which allowed for the luxury of a freestanding bath in the centre and a cosy fireplace for bathing on cold Melbourne evenings…
