Canadian ridge retreat with bold but delicate architectural form

If I was designing a luxury rural abode this warm and earthy rural oasis in Canada would definitely have a place on my mood board! Designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson architects, the long linear form of the home stretches along the crest of a narrow ridge and is surrounded by evergreen forest with sensational views across the Canadian wilderness. The architects have done a great job in achieving a balance of strength and beauty with the core of the structure in stone and steel offset by Douglas fir rafters and timber cladding. A double fireplace defines the living spaces, while the stone core of the house accommodates bathrooms and storage areas. The living spaces extend north onto a timber deck, blurring the boundary between inside and out and overlooking a secluded stone firepit for evening gatherings. Sustainable methods have been used for heating and cooling, with long southern roof overhang providing shade in the summer, while the low winter sun warms the thermal stone core.
