Funky courtyard design for Paddington terrace

I just *love* the outdoor space created by Pepo Botanic Design for this funky terrace in Paddington. After the terrace was renovated the owner turned her attention to the outdoor spaces, which could be seen from many rooms in the home. The landscape needed to look great from all angles inside and allow for entertaining and relaxing with privacy from the street.

Designers statement: “As the site was a collection of awkward spaces it was important to keep the design elements simple and fluid. The ‘concrete blobs’ are organic in their form and create a path that does not accentuate the angles of the building they are softened by ground and are surrounded by mounds of planting which enhances the journey through them. We knew the garden had to be functional and include clothes line, BBQ, off street parking and space for entertaining. To make sure they did not become features we used an otherwise unused hidden corner which is connected to the main deck by the ‘concrete blobs’ to house some of the items. To create off‐street parking without it looking like a car park the blobs were enlarged to fit a small car. The carport is open and connected so it can also be used as a covered entertaining space. Sculptural elements play an important part this garden where the main sculpture sits in one corner which is seen from many angles. The sculpture had to be light in its form but have a sense of strength to complement the concrete ‘blobs’. Mark McClelland worked with copper to create a sculpture with an organic form and movement.”

Sustainable features: LED lighting, rainwater tank under the house for Drip irrigation and of course plants!
