The Open House by Architects EAT

“We want it to be open!” said the young professional owners of this house when they asked Architects EAT to morph their home from “rabbit warren” into spacious, light-filled, open plan living. It’s certainly an exciting and imaginative result. The materials used were chosen for their visual and tactile qualities. Engineered oak flooring abounds, not only underfoot, but is also used as cladding for walls and ceilings. The Dulux vivid white walls and white kitchen joinery break up the timber. The black corten tiles used as a splashback are nothing short of divine, and flow through to the void of the staircase, giving a dramatic textural backdrop, while stone bench top flows through from the kitchen to become the staircase landing.
