Creative architecture breathes new life into Victorian terrace

This Victorian terrace in Fitzroy has been given a major breath of fresh air by Andrew Maynard Architects. Emerging from behind its high boundary wall, the unusual roof of the home interrupts the symmetrical roof lines typical of the area. A transparent glass corridor along the Northern boundary wall brings substantial natural light into the living spaces and frames a central outdoor courtyard into which the living spaces spill. Many elements of the design serve multiple functions, with the stair case becomes part of the kitchen joinery, the louvres acting as both light control and privacy screening, and the boundary external wall doubles as the internal kitchen wall. The high ceilings and exposed brick lend an industrial flavour to the terrace, amplified by accents of stainless steel. And I just love, love, love the funky deep red stairs and mosaic ensuite bathroom!
