Wamberal beach house by Virginia Kerridge
I must confess to being a little bit infatuated by this home, with its warm, understated elegance and Japanese pavilion-style aesthetic. The home is in a top notch location with expansive views over Wamberal Beach & lagoon on the central coast of NSW.
Virginia Kerridge, architect, was asked to design a family abode that maximized the views and connection to garden areas. Given the open and natural character of the neighbourhood, it was important to integrate the architecture as naturally as possible into its surroundings. The home was designed with an open frontage using materials with natural weathering abilities. Architectural bulk was minimized and areas of “relief” through large garden alcoves in the architecture were created.
The home has many sustainable features including north facing glass, the use of recycled materials, cross-ventilation and water tank storage to fill the pool and water the gardens.
Sophisticated and sustainable cool…
