I am thrilled to be officially launching Designhunter today (rebranded as Ecoshack in 2021), after months of hunting and gathering to bring you a special brand of home design: homes with a real sense of warmth, texture and beauty. Our launch project represents everything Designhunter is about: warmth, texture, simplicity and beauty. This home was designed by Bourne Blue architects and is located at Boomerang Beach on the east coast of Australia.
The client brief called for two side-by-side compact homes, one intended to be rented out as a holiday home. Conceived as highly crafted timber pavilions, the dwellings have mirror image layouts and detailing, and share a central spine containing utility areas such as kitchens, surfboard rooms and bathrooms. Each home has a two-storey section at the rear, with a stylish kids bunk room and a master bedroom in a ‘turret’ overlooking the beach.
High raked ceilings to the living areas and lower curved ply ceilings to the more intimate dining area provide visual interest and texture. The orientation allows plenty of natural light and great views of the sand dunes and beach. A design response with equal measures of utility and beauty…
